Viro speaks the OpenAI chat-completions wire format, so most tools that already talk to OpenAI need only a base URL and API key change, not a plugin. Tools that need a different wire format — the Responses API, or Anthropic's Messages API — are marked below as unsupported.
Terminal coding agent. Add Viro as an @ai-sdk/openai-compatible provider in opencode.json.
Local agent gateway. Configure Viro under models.providers with the openai-completions API type.
Point Cursor at Viro with its built-in OpenAI base URL override — no extension required.
Terminal coding agent from Nous Research. Add Viro as a custom provider in ~/.hermes/config.yaml.
VS Code agent. Select the OpenAI Compatible provider, then set the context window and tool-calling flags by hand — Cline does not read them from /v1/models.
Terminal pair programmer. Two environment variables, and an openai/ prefix in front of the Viro slug that Aider strips before the request leaves your machine.
VS Code and JetBrains. Add Viro as an openai provider with an apiBase in config.yaml — and set useResponsesApi: false on any gpt-5 slug.
Codex only speaks the Responses API to custom providers. Blocked until Viro serves /v1/responses.
Claude Code only speaks Anthropic's Messages API to custom providers. Blocked until Viro serves /v1/messages; not currently planned.
