Cline

Cline ships an OpenAI Compatible provider built for exactly this case — a base URL, a key, a model ID. No plugin, no proxy, and nothing to install beyond the Cline extension itself.

Status: unverified. The configuration below is taken from Cline's documented OpenAI-compatible setup and matches how Viro is wired into every other client in these docs, but we have not yet run a live Plan/Act session against Viro ourselves. Treat agentic reliability as "should work, needs a test pass" until we've confirmed it here.

Configure

Open the Cline settings panel (the ⚙️ icon in the Cline sidebar).
Set API Provider to OpenAI Compatible.
Set Base URL to https://api.viro.app/v1.
Paste your Viro key from API Keys into API Key.
Set Model ID to a Viro slug — e.g. viro/optimized, viro/frontier, or anthropic/claude-sonnet-5.

Cline sends a probe through the same auth header when you click Verify — a green result means the base URL and key were both accepted. Leave Use Azure Identity Authentication off; Viro authenticates with a bearer key.

Fill in Model Configuration yourself

This is the step people skip. Cline's OpenAI-compatible provider does not read model metadata from GET /v1/models — it takes a bare model ID and assumes defaults for everything else. The Model Configuration section is where you correct that:

Context Window — left at a default that is wrong for most Viro models, this is what causes premature truncation on long files. The real number per model is on the Models page.
Computer Use — Cline's label for tool/function calling. Leave this off and Cline can read but not reliably edit. Turn it on only for models that hold up over multi-step tool sequences (see below).
Image Support — on only for vision models. The Models page marks which ones accept image input.
Input / Output Price — cosmetic, but it's what drives Cline's in-session cost estimate. Viro's real per-model prices are on Pricing; your actual billed spend is always Usage, not Cline's estimate.

Picking a model

Cline's Act mode is a long tool-calling loop, which is the hardest thing to get right across model families. Start with viro/frontier or a named frontier model (anthropic/claude-sonnet-5, openai/gpt-5.6-terra), then try viro/optimized once you have a reliability baseline to compare against — see Model Routing.

Avoid the gpt-oss family here. It manages one tool round before emitting subsequent tool calls as plain text, which in Cline looks like the agent narrating an edit it never made — see Server tools.

Troubleshooting

"Model Not Found" — the Model ID isn't a live Viro slug. Call GET https://api.viro.app/v1/models for the current list rather than typing one from memory; slugs are namespaced (viro/, anthropic/, openai/) and the prefix is part of the name.

"Invalid API Key" — check the key hasn't been revoked on API Keys, and that you pasted the full value. Viro only shows a key once at creation.

Requests stop partway through a long task — most often a spend limit on the key or a low balance, not a Cline problem. Both surface as a normal API error; see Errors.
